I was going to chime in to recommend Rentafone Japan as well. The free delivery and return postage is convenient. If you're going to meet up with people, having a local phone is essential.

Once spent 45 minutes walking around Shibuya station trying to find a friend I was meeting up with. If we hadn't had phones, it'd have taken hours.
