Indeed, you can play it your advantage sometimes.
Additionally, by letting my bank do the conversion (instead of taking the USD price quoted by Easyjet) I was able to save another $13 (given that my bank doesn't charge extra for foreign charges.)
Even if your bank did charge a foreign usage fee, it is usually better to charge in local/original currency. This is not just because the banks rates are better but because if you did charge your cards currency, many foreign usage fees are sneakily for the use of the card abroad, rather than the CCY of the transaction. Hence switching to card CCY, at the poorer rate provided by the merchant, doesn't always exempt people from their foreign usage fees!
