Reviving this thread to ask advice on my situation. Here's the gist of it:
1. Rented car from Jersey City in mid Jan for a weekend
2. Received a letter from rentalcarticket.com a few weeks later, stating I was over speeding on a certain road in Washington DC at a certain time ( I was in that locality at the mentioned time, so no issues there)
3. Fine of $ 100 paid by the rentalcarticket and admin fee of $ 30, all will be automatically charged to my CC
4. I disputed it on the grounds that, at that hour I was looking for a parking spot and was driving really slowly. I have a parking garage ticket, stamped after 5-7 minutes of the violation. So hardly much chance of me actually over speeding.
5. Also, there is no citation, etc. provided. So as far as I am concerned- No Proof- no payment.
6. Received a voicemail a few weeks later that DC has changed their processes and so on and so forth, and so they are still looking into the matter and will revert soon.
7. After a few weeks, I see a $ 130 charge on my CC..
My question is - can I dispute it with my CC. I did not authorize this charge, and they haven't given me a shred of proof that I over speed. Will it hold ?
To give a little more perspective - I am visiting US for some work and the charge is on my original country CC. Are they trying to pull a fast one on me, hoping that I being a visitor, will not want to get involved in unnecessary issues ?
