I don't know about a claim to taxes paid...that one probably varies by tax and jurisdiction. Pretty sure your base fare is toast though.
One thing I would certainly do, however: monitor flight status. If the flight is delayed significantly or canceled, you could be back in business - either to reschedule or refund. Again, it varies by airline what constitutes a "signficant" enough delay to declare it a trip in vain.
