I've looked at some websites forecasting wait times for the border and it's not good reading. We may well be out of Vancouver earlier than 9am (probably still adjusting from UK time) but given it's a Saturday we're going to be in for something of a wait regardless....
Any chance of bundling your kids into the car, driving down very late Friday night and staying somewhere along the way?
There's a small motel that I can't vouch for in Blaine, and a Hampton about 20 miles down I-5 at the north side of Belllingham.
