Like others, I too have experienced somebody working within a large company who is focused on the company's "rules" and overlooks the fact that they're perpetrating a basic breach of contract.
At one level it's almost funny and I hope the OP obtains a refund with a minimum of fuss.
It also sounds to me that the OP got exactly what his original contract stated which would make it hard for me to feel that the OP has been badly hard done by given that he ended up paying $50 less than what he originally expected to pay
Once the contract was re-issued incorrectly charging an F group, then my understanding is that the location should not be able to raise the price without notice and should just deal with this internally on why the rental was permitted
