I am a procrastinator - I did not purchase the tickets until 1 week, before flight departure (although if I had known about transborder V requiring a 2 week advance purchase, I would have done it then).

However, most transcontinental flights from either YOW to YVR, or YYZ to YVR, for either March 7 night or most of March 8 - have C0 & M0 to L0 - and many have Y0, as well. Purchasing a ticket one week in advance would have likely been very expensive (perhaps requiring a full fare economy ticket), and with no confirmation of upgrade on the transcontinental flight in advance, and perhaps no upgrade at the gate. The YVR to LAX flights on March 7 and 8 are available on most fare classes, in both cabins - perhaps because March break in BC starts on March 14 evening, while in Ontario it starts on March 7 evening. It looks like there are many upgradeable seats, on that evening YYZ to LAX flight; however, our (connecting) 4 PM Ottawa to Toronto flight is showing C0 - we may or may not be able to upgrade at the gate.
