Like the OP, I remember the excellent service on London-Scotland flights in that period, as well as in the 1990s and 1980s. I remember the whole meal process being pretty decent, whatever time of day. I seem to recall BA stopping it for a while in the 1980s, and that was when I defected to British Midland. The service at Dan Air on LHR-INV was excellent, too.
