I have been clear in this thread that I am not a fan of the physical layout of this hotel. Still, I needed a stay credit and I returned for one night this week. Staff has definitely upped their game since my prior stay. I feel that employees are doing everything possible to give a good stay experience within the limitations of the property structure.
We arrived late at night. We were offered a courtesy upgrade to a Monterey Suite in building 4. The Regency Club is in building 5. In and of itself this made a better stay experience as it was a brief walk apart. I suggest that any diamond who plans to use the lounge ask for a room in buildings 1-5. Other buildings are on the opposite side of the main building where you check in, and a much longer walk which by necessity is outside.
We were also given a recently updated sheet giving the diamond benefits. It does indeed say that the resort fee is $10 ($20 for other guests). Thank you, jlsf. We were proactively offered a 4pm checkout. We didn't need it, but I was impressed at the offer.
The Monterey Suite is simply two rooms with a lock off door, so gives no sense of space as a more conventional suite does. We had a king bed; apparently the room locked off on the far side of the living room has two double beds. That's worth noting for families. Our room faced the pool which was much more pleasant than a parking lot view.
The lounge was improved on our last visit. It has been remodeled since then and has a fresh, contemporary look. It is small, with a community table that seats 12 people. There are two small side tables and several tables outdoors. It was too chilly to sit outside, but there are space heaters there. It is a pleasant outdoor space overlooking the pool. We were only there for breakfast, and it is better than most US hotel lounges. They had decent bagels and salmon in addition to fruits, cereal, hard boiled eggs, and some pastries. The lounge attendant was very proactive in seeing if she could make coffee drinks or provide any other services.
On checkout, my bill showed the $20 resort fee. I commented on it and they immediately acknowledged it was in error. They proactively took off the entire fee as an apology. This is the Hyatt service I know and love.
