You are correct that all you'd lose is free EC at T-24, possible companion upgrade, and a lower upgrade priority if you split the reservation. Note that splitting your reservation may cause your wife to lose priority seating in the event of an aircraft swap.

The benefits of flying under your MVPG number include a larger miles bonus (100% rather than 25%) and Sky Priority Status, which should include priority security.
