It appears that the process is now much more transparent, with one caveat....

On the homepage, when you put in the "Coupon Code" box a code that is recognized as a free-day cert, another pick-list opens that asks you to select "How Many Days?"

Once you do that, and proceed as usual, you eventually get to a confirmation page that shows the value of the coupon deducted and the final total cost. ^

However, one caveat: the confirmation defaults to PrePaying your reservation (with some rather stiff penalties for canceling.) It isn't at all intuitive how you get the non-pre-paid version but you simply uncheck the tiny checkmark that is to the left of the verbiage "Convenient PrePaid Option"
