To add my own experience, I had a Sapphire Card years ago. Then got a Sapp Preferred. I ran into some difficulties converting the points to Ultimate Rewards and just cashed out via, I think, a gas card.

Since then, I have gotten several Sapp Preferred cards, Ink cards etc. with big bonuses.

It might just be easier to go ahead and open a few Ultimate Rewards earning accounts and not focus too much on converting older points. Nice, it turns out you can do it, nice if turns out you get a bunch of bonuses from new apps.
