I don't think it is a question of landing as the A380 has landed at both BOM and DEL during its inaugural marketing flights with journos aboard it, but it is typically touted as a reason. The runways at BOM (09-27) is 3600 meters ad 60 mtrs wide, which is sufficient for the A380. Looks to be more a question of regulation (bureaucracy)....
