Actually, the bolded part isn't true. If you book a ticket for a passenger whose information is stored in your United account (e.g., my daughter, for whom I book a lot of revenue tix), and their info includes their FF# (either UA or other *A), then:
(1) their FF# gets attached to the award ticket that you booked with your miles,
(2) as far as I can tell, they do not inherit your status benefits.

I'm not positive about #2, because I only waited about 30 minutes after it ticketed (during which time I was unable to select E+ seats for this reservation, and no "eligible for CPU" icon appeared) before taking action to change the situation.

Based on that experience, when I book economy awards for other people in the future, I won't use the stored information in my profile.
