Unfortunately, that will not help with either the bonus miles or for the purchases required to receive that bonus.

Actually this did work a few years back when my wife opened up a Delta Skymiles Amex, and used my Skymiles number in the application to have me get the miles she was earning. I guess that was just a different card at a different time.
