I think the "RULES" state that the reservation must be made under the PP name and matching number. If a hotel recognizes spouse as PP when guest is not, that is their option - but is against the rules.

As for giving your wife your card to use, if you read the fine print, it can be removed for that. In fact I saw that happen in NYC.

Another way which was suggested to me it to make the resevation under "Mr and Mrs" "PP" andspouse Jones. Then if for some reason Mr PP does not show up or plans to show up late, spouse jones can still check in. However, if her name is not on the reservation, she cannot check in.
