Thanks guys, so basically each country has its own laws regarding this hence why the self check-in kiosks aren't more universal. About 80% of the time in US at hotels where I have status I get asked for ID but I guess that's also because the benefits are not transferable so they want to confirm that I am indeed the person on the reservation?
