I had a similar conundrum on my Empire Builder trip last week. That was solved by upgrading to the Family Bedroom. But it seems deals on sleeper accomodation are better and more frequent on that route than on the Coast Starlight. On the CS, the Family Bedrooms (and all the sleepers, for that matter) seems to start higher, and just keep getting higher.

But the Parlour Car is my fall back position, along with some fake vomit to reserve my preferred armchair.
