Brilliant! I've used cardboard and "adjusted" some protruding corners on occasion, but this sounds quite compact. I've used tote bags for VCRs (in the old days) and other gear, with some added protection. I think the O{'s box will work, but there are ways to "reshape" boxes and repack gear to make it even more compact.

I've done this several times. I fix these things for fun in my spare time, and I've surprised my buddies in London a couple of times with unexpected gifts.
This is how I do it: I take off the base, and pack it in my luggage. I then cut a piece of plywood 1/8" thick to the exact size of the monitor, and then tape it in place with 2" clear packing tape. I then put the monitor in one of these canvas tote bags. 23" should be a perfect fit.
Then put it in the overhead bin. It will be thin, and other people will be putting their stuff on top of it, but as long as it's not heavy stuff, there should be no problem. Face down is probably better than face up.
