Agree. I can't recall being asked for a birthdate when buying a domestic plane ticket, just the correct name and passport number. If you do get an online field that has this, just "accidentally typo" correct month + day but different year that books her as an adult. Nobody in China cares and if anybody asks at check-in, it's a "computer glitch." She wouldn't be denied boarding if the ticketed reservation matches her passport name and number. (But don't do this bogus year thing for international tickets of course!).

drewguy, I assure you that no Chinese booking online would pay for an "official child fare" (full-fare x 50%) if that amount ends up more than a discounted adult fare for that particular flight/route.
