A conductor might not know that the two are the same price, and since you got on at BBY, you technically do not have a valid ticket until the train reaches RTE. So I think that would also qualify you as a stowaway. YMMV though.
I find it improbable that a conductor wouldn't know that tickets are the same price from BOS - BBY - RTE to the destination. That is common knowledge.
