OT but I remember a 6-7 years ago when I flew around NZ they had no security checks at regional airports offering domestic flights. Is that still the case?
I mean none whatsoever. Not even a x-ray machine or a security guard. So nice that was.
Queenstown(ZQN) had the old-school metal detectors and X-Ray belt but that was it. AKL, the same.
Taupo Regional Airport(TUO/NZAP) had nothing. Maybe there are hand-wandings that go on at boarding time, but when I ducked into the terminal to get an espresso, there was naught but a bellrope at the door that separated the terminal building from the tarmac. Of course, with only 2 or 3 flights a day in the form of an Eagle Airways(DBA Air NZ Airlink) B1900D, there's really not a whole lot to protect. Still, I was surprised that there wasn't even a walkthrough metal detector.
