Road tolls for the shutoko went up Jan 1 2012 from flat 700 to max 900. They are now distance based if you pay by ETC, but it's a joke. You pay 600 yen for very short trips like Shibuya to the Imperial Palace instead of 700 yen. My longer trips are 800 or 900 versus 700 before.

From Nerima to Nagano (exit 13) less than 200 km is nearly 4000 yen.

I am sure they eliminated off-peak discounts as well post Jan 2012.

Deflation is Japan is a joke, BTW, but that's another kettle of fish. To illustrate the idiocy: saw a quote by someone from the MOF that removing agricultural import duties and quotas would cause "deflation", therefore bad thing.

The 6000 point United one way reward is great for domestic JP travel.
