Maybe this is due to a D check being due on the next older 777-300ER and is getting a refit at the same time. This would explain why NRT-SEA is being cancelled although ANA were previously able to cover this as they would be one 777 down during the heavy maintenance.
That's a plausible explanation, but I'm surprised (though pleased) that NH would prefer to introduce yet more equipment uncertainty into their schedule by adding a single IOJ-outfitted 77W onto the IAD route rather than switch NH11/12 or NH1009/1010 to IOJ 77Ws every day.
