What were planning on doing with the old certificate you initially linked to the reservation? Make another reservation? That is a BIG no-no. It will come up as already being used.

Way back when Hilton was transitioning to virtual certificates, I received a virtual certificate and a paper certificate for a free night. I had already used my virtual certificate. I thought I had gotten another certificate, not noticing the numbers were the same. When I called in to use the paper certificate, I gave the CSR my certificate number to be used. When the CSR entered the info, I was told that it had already been used.
The only reason I thought up this admittedly bizarre scenario was because the Hilton rep was pretty adament to be sure to not make a booking outside of the year the certificate is good for because its not flagged in their system or anything & does in fact allow you do make the reservation at any date, you would just be screwed at that time when your at the property checking in. Seems silly that the expiration date of the cert isn't shown when you make a booking so hopefully the rep was mistaken.

I didn't inquire if the system knows if you would try up book twice with the same cert number.
