Haha, feel free. It sucks to burn the return leg of the 1st ticket but its worth it in the long run. And, certainly, this strategy only works when you can change the award tickets for free.
I just find it obnoxious to pay that much money for European originated award tickets. Happy to spend the miles and happy to pay up when needed(my breakdown is probably 50/50 biz/econ). However since I have to cover all of tickets(personal and professional), I've gotten very particular about my spending habits, so to save $650 here and there is worth it for me.
