Scotland Highlands - first-time visit - recommendations?

July of next year will spend around a week in Scotland. Not interested in museums, cities, touristy areas, and such.

I remember a scene from the movie The Queen (and perhaps scenes from other movies) that showed barren-type landscapes & hills - remote areas with streams here and there. Would like to spend time in such remote, rural areas, staying at B&Bs or wherever. The plan (still in the thinking stage) is to fly from the USA via LHR to Aberdeen, rent a car there, and 6-7 days later (I have time available to spend more days if necessary) fly out of Edinburgh.

Just got a Lonely Planet guidebook on Scotland today. Have looked it over; it has lots of information which I will consider. For now, though, I was wondering if someone familiar with Scotland could give recommendations on particular areas and villages/towns (and places to stay overnight - any price range) they would recommend in the Highlands part of Scotland.
