Many North American airports have the wonderful feature: Open access to domestic baggage. KUL (and most other airports around the world) has neither but it doesn't mean some other passenger won't take the bags.
But most airports have plentiful cheap hotel options landside, generally cheaper than the transit hotels.
KUL is located in the middle of nowhere unfortunately. Makes the current BKK look central by comparison. Only the Pan Pacific (or whatever it now is) is close by and the train service probably doesn't operate so early.
