I bit the bullet and called BA - AA used to be my go-to airline when it was a choice, but I'm losing faith in their computers and people. The competent-sounding agent didn't know, but got an answer fairly quickly - they'll book a dummy date and waive the change fee. Hail to the Queen, and one more travel problem solved.
