As for noise, the CY PDX is nearby, and I remember staying there once several years ago (2008 or 2009). I remember hearing airplane noise, but it was not as loud as your SHS room.
I noticed 2 newspapers in the lobby area when I checked in. One was USA Today; not sure of the other. I'll be going to breakfast in a bit, so will look to see & report back. My guess is either WSJ or local paper.

It was quiet during the night after red-eyes & before oh-dawn-hundred flights, and I was able to get a good night's sleep.

Colleague is in one of the front facing rooms too (#301) but on the opposite side (ie, not airport side). He didn't seem to think it was that noisy, so maybe it's the combo of both street/airport side for my room (#303)?
