Well, we were ' toasted ' in Jan / Feb '90 , even more " tanned " than from e.g. Bali. Had a no AC car for part of the time & it was unbearable as the draft was hot

Any one here were at the Commonwealth Games then?
Not many luxury lodges and Huka Lodge was booked up by the Royal family .. So had to settle for less . Actually a relief to have some decent places to stay !
So check what events are happening when you plan your trip ..
Other than that , the trip was enjoyable as always in NZ, scenery for both NI & SI - rather bucolic though different.
Needless to say, we now return during cooler months
