Did the National Rep Verify You with AmEx?

I've wondered just how closely National coordinates with AmEx. Here's my situation: About three years back, I reached Executive status through the AmEx Platinum Card. The following year, I canceled the card but I had also rented enough through National to maintain Executive status. Then this past year my travel was reduced and I fell about five days short of renewing Executive so as of March 1st I dropped to Emerald Club. This sucks since I now have a somewhat long-term client that will have me renting every week for the next few months. Sure, I'll earn my status back in a couple of months but it would be nice to have it back at the start of this project.
