I believe there is a train from Zurich to Basel; traveling by train in Europe (at least in my experiences) is actually a good bit of fun. FWIW you could also try looking for flights to MLH (it's actually the same airport as BSL but I think on the France side of the border); MLH can sometimes be cheaper (or more expensive) depending on when you go, so it might be worth a shot

Lots of trains in Switzerland. We did a day trip from Zürick to Luzern & back.
There is a train station under the airport at Zürick. It's a local line 3 stops from Hbf but you can buy your long haul tickets (including the local fare) at the airport.
