I used my BAPP for sterling travellers cheques and foreign currency in separate transactions from ACE, both showed as purchases and counted towards my 241 voucher on the rewards screen. I paid the TC directly into my bank account, I didn't ask Amex to set up a cash advance option on it but I think there is an internal limit that Amex set on how much currency you can order, I think it may be a % of your credit limit but I may be wrong. I ordered at the end of Feb and they have taken until now to show up on my statement so if you are near the cut off point for your 241 ordering currency may not be a good option.
