They are fugly horrible everywhere. From Monte Carlo to the Pyramids in Egypt. Awful. Just awful.
It seems that I will prefer remembering Burma as I saw it when I was there in 1996 without hardly any tourists except for a few adventurers like me.
It also reminds me of the Greek Islands during the years of the Colonels in the early 70's. No tourists whatsoever and everything was so incredibly dirt cheap. One night accomodation in a family guest house would cost 1 US Dollar and food was delicious and dirt cheap also. Could stay for weeks without spending much at all.
The islands are now swarmed by mass tourism and built up like crazy they have nothing Cycladic to them anymore and prices must be insane.
I wonder if there are still any beautiful places in this world where tourism and greed hasn't hit yet.
Seeing these bungalow "Inle Lake Resort" is disheartening. The "resort mania" has now hit Burma probably with a high price tag attached to them.
How terribly sad.
