Upon my return to Yangon I met again with the same guide I did on day 1. I believe his name is spelled Thein Dein. He proposed that we spend the rest of the day seeing how the local people live away from the tourist attractions. So that’s what we did. First we had lunch at a local open air place. And then we took a local ferry across the river to a much poorer area. We walked for a bit and then got on one of the traditional trishaw/pedicabs to take a look around. We visited (yet another!) market and some religious sites. School was letting out so we saw lots of school kids as well. Then it was back across the river and a visit to the docks where the small boats take people who live in the delta home for the night. It was an interesting way to clost of the trip. We also stopped briefly at the Chinatown market.

And that was it for Myanmar. Despite the poor infrastructure and some challenges I really enjoyed my time there. The people are super nice and the sights are really outstanding. I just hope that the recent opening of the country continues and that freedom is extended to all of the people, including the various tribal and ethnic groups who are still being oppressed. The next day it was back to the airport to return to Bangkok.
