The next morning it was time to check out the sights a little ways out of town starting with the very famous U Bein’s Bridge in Amarapura which is 1 km long and made entirely of teak

From there we went to a complex of monasteries where over 1000 monks live. Every morning at 11 they line up and parade to lunch. Unfortunately this has been turned into a big tourist attractions. I don’t know that I have ever been more embarrassed to be a tourist after seeing the behavior of so many people. After I took these couple of pictures I put my camera away.

After that we went up Sagaing Hill which is dotted with even more monasteries. After our visit on the hill our van broke down. Many vehicles were 20+ years old including this particular one.

With our van dead my guide called for backup and we used someone else’s wheels to get us to the boat launch area to take up over to Ava or Inwa as it is now called which was another old capital. You take a bumpy horsecart ride around the island to see the sights.
