I was in WA for 7 days and received a parking warning (?) for seemingly nothing. Another parking fine issued to a number that doesn't appear to match to the hirecar I was driving and a possibly a speeding ticket coming out of a motorway, which I think had a 40km limit.
I'm shocked by the high rates here. It's expensive for an Aussie but even worse for a Brit!
Oh well.
To be honest if I was on holiday I wouldn't pay any of them and just not bother coming back. There's a lot of stupid things I noticed while here and this is one of those things symptomatic of a ex British colonial country.
However while I was here I was asked for an interview. Again, I don't really like the country but I am attracted by the ability to escape the UK. I might want a working VISA down the line.
So I guess I would pay the speeding fine just in case. The parking tickets I think would be OK and probably aren't going to be a problem for a VISA application.
However...
if I was doing 100km/hr rather than 40km/hr coming off the motorway then that's enough to ban me I'd imagine. But... how can they ban my license if I have no license? While I have agreed to bide by the rules by presenting my passport at the border I haven't got a license for them to take away.
I wonder if that ticket could cost me a future in Australia because if I apply for a VISA such a ticket might show up. But then again... it might need to get to mandate status before that, and this could take some time.
I'm asking this because...
do I really want to live in a country where I can get thrown out for a speeding ticket?
And,
there's no point spending resources on earning money here if I'm not going to be allowed in.
On the one hand I hear this concept of what's fair is fair in Aus but on the other I hear shades of heavy handedness. I wonder which applies here, not to tourists but for immigrants.
