I'm a bit puzzled too. While it isn't my favorite Hilton, it did always feel Hilton-y. Well, it had a lounge. And it was big. And business-y., with conference facilities.
That said, if being a Doubltree is cheaper, I can envision management being interested.

The fees seem to be similar.. The reviews on yelp do not seem to be great so I wonder if its a quality issue.
