I have to agree with this recommendation if your wife wanted wanted to go without the rig. I used to have an OM-D and I loved the steady-cam-like stabilization. Part of the video linked below was shot on the S-Bahn without a steady-cam just to get an idea as to how the stabilization works.

Part of the issue is how the steadicam is to be used. If you are shooting from a fixed position, then it is not really necessary. But if you are walking and shooting, then a steadicam would be required as in-camera stabilization is not up to that task from what I have seen.
