Self Parking was free at MArriott. Valet was offered free the first day not for the stay. Valet was free the entire stay at the Sheraton (only cost tips).
Yes, as I read prior post my expectations were high. I was still pleased with my stay, but SPG won this round. I went to Desert Ridge in Scottsdale at Thanksgiving last year and they gave me a great suite. Golf there was good as well!
AFAIR, per a policy announcement from MR a few months back, Plats are supposed to get the highest speed of Internet connection offered by each hotel/resort. If my memory of this is faulty, I invite clarification or correction. If my recollection is correct, the difference would only be that Sheraton told you about it, and Marriott did not (which is dumb on Marriott's part, but not really a meaningful failure on that point).
Valet vs. self parking is a nice perk, as are the other perks/benefits you mentioned, such as free continental breakfast at the Sheraton.
I think that as a PP, you have the right to have high expectations, and Marriott is acting foolishly (as a corporation) not to deliver on Plat and PP expectations, because, if my guess is correct, Marriott is blowing off many tens of millions of dollars of lost business now, and will be blowing off hundreds of millions of dollars of lost business in the next year or two, because of disappointment of its most loyal and important (not DYKWIA, but important $$$ volume) customers.
On the different subject of upgrades at Marriott Desert Ridge, I got a great suite upgrade there too, it is a great resort, and the suites are truly nice there, and the views from my suite were sublime.
