IAH connections are a far better option out of SAN - MIA is too far away coupled with the 3 hr time difference it's tough to make it work. It's great for SAN to have additional service but color me skeptical that this flight will last any longer than the flight did in the 90's.

For connecting flights you have to be pretty desperate to choose MIA unless you have no other rational choice. IAH is a better option for most destinations with the understanding that there are some smaller Carribean destinations not served by any airport except MIA.
Do you mean DFW instead of IAH? The desirability of IAH connections is irrelevant considering that this is the AA forum.
To those who have mentioned S America - SAN-MIA isn't intended to connect anyone to S America, it's about the local traffic and connections to the Caribbean. SAN travelers to S America can fly to DFW during the daytime and connect to evening flights.
