Having never flown out of or into LCY I was quite excited of having the option of using it for our MAD flights this year. However obstacles kept getting in the way.....

Inbound from MAD the onward connection to GLA from LCY was far too long. Had there been a lounge to while away the time I might have been swayed but several hours hanging about in departures just isn’t my idea of fun. More schedules with better connection times along with the T5 lounges made the decision to use LHR a very easy one in the end.

The return trip wasn’t so one sided though. Due to us having a 3 night stopover in London it meant same day connections weren’t a factor. Unfortunately availability or the lack of on the GLA-LCY sector only gave us the option of a very early morning flight down. Very early starts when we’re on holiday are a big no no and to be avoided at every opportunity so once again LHR wins again. With a leisurely afternoon departure which will mean not only can I enjoy my hotel breakfast but we can take the hired car back at the same hour of the day we collected it. We also get to check-in to the London hotel during the allowed time....so no need to beg for an early check-in.

London to MAD next. Both airports offered departure times at a sane hour of the day meaning there would be no rush to check out of the hotel. Getting to LCY by taxi would be slightly cheaper than LHR but not enough to matter. So why once again did I opt for LHR instead of LCY?
I’m a sucker I know but yet again it was having the use of a lounge at T5 that swayed it although LHR having more flights to MAD should anything go wrong was also a consideration. So in my case if LCY had a BA lounge I might have chosen two flights out of the four or at least given using the airport much more serious thought.....another time maybe.

Does LCY not having a proper lounge put you off using it I wonder?
