Holy smokes, I am in serious trouble then. Have to call Aeroplan (used their miles) to change the outgoing flight from Frankfurt, even if I have to travel economy. Called up German consulate, they said since I have a green card, it shouldn't be a problem, but I am not going to risk it.

I'm not sure if you can stay in the secure part of the airport for more than 12 hours as the website clearly states:
and you are planning to stay for more than 24 hours. If you don't have a visa and your layover is more than 12 hours, LH might not let you board the flight in Mumbai. No visa can be issued at the airport.
