TG and CA have both been happy to put me on the waitlist for I/O class if I provide my PNR....
That's good to know. I've not tried having the partners waitlist me.
The last time I had something like this was DXB-FRA-IAD-JAX. DXB-FRA on LH. I booked global first, but only award J on the LH flight. I finally got wind that there was F-award space on the LH flight, called UA, they could see it, and "put me into F" (or at least they made the request). Checking next day with LH showed me still in J... Called UA, they tried calling, couldn't make it work, but they ended up putting me in GF on DXB-IAD! That was an unexpected outcome...
