Have you checked this website?

http://www.germany.info/Vertretung/u...sit__Visa.html

I'm not sure if you can stay in the secure part of the airport for more than 12 hours as the website clearly states:

Airport transit privilege does not apply and you will need a visitor visa:
...
4. if your stay in the international transit area exceeds 12 hours
and you are planning to stay for more than 24 hours. If you don't have a visa and your layover is more than 12 hours, LH might not let you board the flight in Mumbai. No visa can be issued at the airport.
