Fly in LA

Day 1-2 down in San Diego (Zoo, Sea World)
Day 3-4 spending some time along the beach towns near LA (Newport beach-Santa Monica) that night drive up to around Bakersfield/Visalia
Day 5 Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Parks, stay in fresno
Day 6-7 Yosemite National Park the two parts to spend a day in each...Valley for one, Tuolome Meadows for the other day. At the end of Day 7 drive toward Monterey/Salinis.
Day 8 Monterey Aquarium in the AM, explore the are in the evening...then up to SF.

An alternate

Day 7....drive back down to Fresno for the night after Yoemite
Day 8...drive to San Luis Obispo and explore the central coast area
Day 9...drive up to Monterey , PM do the aquarium, then up to sF.
Day 10-11 in SF.

The major towns in Central California (Bakersfield, Fresno, Visalia, San Luis Obispo area, Monterey) all have major chain hotels.
