(BTW, WN has the same refare-no-fee-future-credit policy, with credit available for 1 year. Despite all the WN website kookiness, I give them credit for making it easy to do with a few mouse clicks!)
The upside with WN is you can (AFAIK) indeed change dates or routings to get a better fare.
You can also do that with AS if you are Gold--that is more a side effect of the lack of change fees (which are waived for AS Golds) than a specific intent to extend the GARR to flight changes. That's why WN allows it, too--they waive change fees.
I believe JetBlue is the only other carrier to allow fare credits without charging a change fee, but like AS, you can't change flights or dates.
I should have specified that AS is the only
major legacy network carrier to do this...as much as we trash on WN here, we tend to forget that WN
is a major carrier, it's just not a legacy network carrier.
