IT Glitch? Business Class Miles Cost

I have a dormant United account which somehow over the years I have accumulated 46000 miles in. I am not likely to use the account for anything and the miles expire in Sept 2013. I have never booked a reward on United before and in order to get rid of them earlier this month booked two singles from MIA to GYE via PTY in Y at 20000 each. I was fiddling around yesterday and wondering how to use the opther 6000 miles. I wondered if I could upgrade a sement to C. Hence I went to the booking and clicked change flight and surprisingly the same flights that we are on in Y came up in C for no cash no miles extra. A bit odd I thought but I clicked through and it offered me them in C for $0 and 5000 miles back! I accepted and the transaction went through. Oddly only one of us was issued with a new C class ticket and even more oddly 20000 miles were redeposited in my account with an expiry of sept 2014. Hence I ended up with a Y class itinary for the other half and C for me. Not that unsurprisingly things readjusted over night: and although the tickets remain the miles in my account have changed to minus 9000.

This is obviouskly quite an IT glitch . I am not that bothered re C class and have looked today to change the flight back to Y but this is no longer an available option. Should I just leave things alone now..but what will happen with the now minus 9000 miles or should i attempt to ring them to get me back in y ?
