The real motivation for UA management breaching their past promises is to systematically reduce costs wherever they think they can with the minimum negative consequences to the airline's financial performance. Management must view the MM crowd as a particularly vulnerable group with so many years of loyalty already invested that they have no choice but to stick with UA. This is a dangerous bet and may negatively affect UA's bottom line in ways that management may have never predicted. The real question will be whether they attribute this negative impact at least in part to their decisions to betray their most loyal customers.
I'm sure you're right. I haven't purchased a "UA" ticket since it became clear that the airline would really be CO (well just look at the paintwork).
Shame about the way UA 1MM's are being treated, and I fully support the court action.
However, on a purely personal note, I'm not complaining, with spouse status provision and lifetime club membership being maintained for 2MM's.
But the downgrading to 75% bonus miles isn't a problem for me, as I no longer buy UA tickets.
So, all's sweet, unless UA goes belly up, in which case my considerable FF miles go to the brick outhouse.
